1. Who we are
Classspace ("Classspace", "we", "us") is a family of educational products — Hour of Math, Digital Technologies, Exam Focus, Classspace for Schools (including its offline school server), and LiveClass — used by students, parents, tutors and schools in Nigeria, the UK and the US. Classspace is a product of JuniorX Innovation Academy (juniorxacademy.com).
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It covers classspace.io, hom.classspace.io, the school and assignments apps, the Classspace mobile and desktop apps, and the Classspace school server.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the product:
- Account details: name, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash), and — for school and tutor accounts — role, class and organisation details. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Learning activity: lesson progress, answers to questions and worksheets, mastery levels, streaks, scores and time spent. This powers progress reports for students, parents and teachers.
- Things you create or send: messages and content in collaborative lessons, assignments set by teachers, and anything you type into our contact form.
- Payment details: when you buy a subscription or unit pass, our payment processor (Flutterwave) collects your card or bank details directly. Classspace never sees or stores full card numbers.
- Notification settings: if you turn on reminders in the mobile app, we store your device's push-notification token so we can send them, and we remove it when you sign out.
- Device and usage data: IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you visit, collected automatically to keep the service secure and to understand how it is used.
3. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide and personalise the learning experience — placement, lesson sequencing, progress tracking, streaks and achievements;
- run school and tutor dashboards, including rosters and student-progress visibility for authorised teachers, tutors, administrators and linked parents;
- process payments and manage subscriptions, unit passes and school seats;
- send account, security, product and billing emails. Marketing emails are sent only where you have agreed, and every one carries an unsubscribe link;
- keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems; and
- understand how our site is used so we can improve it.
4. Children's information
Many of our users are children, who use Classspace through a school or a parent or guardian. Where a school or parent creates a student account, that school or parent is responsible for having any consent that applicable law requires before doing so.
We collect only the information needed to deliver the learning product. We do not show advertising to children, do not use children's learning data for advertising, and do not sell it.
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Within a school account: a student's progress is visible to that student's teachers and school administrators, and to the student's linked parent or guardian.
- Service providers that help us run Classspace, under terms that limit their use of the data to providing that service: Cloudflare (hosting, data storage, email delivery and the real-time infrastructure that carries live-class audio and video); Flutterwave (payments); Resend (email delivery); Google (sign-in, if you choose it); and Microsoft Clarity (site analytics).
- Where the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Classspace, our users or the public.
6. Cookies and analytics
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. It is set as secure and HTTP-only, so it is not readable by scripts on the page.
Our public website uses Microsoft Clarity to collect usage information such as pages visited, clicks and scrolling, which helps us find confusing pages. You can block it with your browser's privacy settings or a content blocker.
7. Where data is stored, and for how long
Data is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Cloudflare operates a global network, so your information may be processed in countries other than your own; we rely on our providers' contractual commitments to protect it.
When a school uses the Classspace school server or desktop app, classroom data is kept on the school's own device and synchronised to the cloud when it goes online.
We keep personal information for as long as your account is active and as needed for the purposes in this policy. When an account is deleted we stop using its personal information and remove or de-identify it, except for records we must keep by law (such as payment records) or that we need to keep the service secure.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live — for example under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 or the UK GDPR — you may have the right to access your personal information, correct it, delete it, receive a copy, object to or restrict some uses, and withdraw consent you have given. You may also complain to your data protection regulator, such as the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
You can delete your own account from the Account screen in the Classspace mobile app, or by asking us (see Delete your account). School and organisation administrators can delete a managed student's account from their dashboard. For anything else, send us a privacy request through our contact page and we will respond.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date at the top of this page, and tell account holders about material changes.
